Upload or Email Digital Salon Images
Choose whether to log in and upload your salon images (preferred) or to email them.

The current salon is now closed to uploads.

As we introduce our new website, we're offering 2 ways to get your digital images submitted for our next salon. Be sure to review Competition Rules - Some Key Points at the bottom of this page before beginning.

1. The preferred method is to upload your images directly into our database. This method does not require renaming your image files, and allows you to review and even change your selections at any time prior to the closing date of the salon. For this method to work, you must be registered and logged in. If you've done this and are now logged in, just click the Upload button below to get started. Otherwise, please register (if you haven't already) and log in. Then return to this page.
NOTE: You need to register only once. Then just log in any time you want to use the member privileges of this website.

2. If you have difficulty registering or logging in, you can email your images as in previous salons by clicking the button below to send an email with your attached files. With this method, it's important to follow the same file naming convention we've been using in previous salons (see Key Points below).

Try this button if the one above doesn't open an email* window:

*Different email servers may prefer one method or the other. If niether of the buttons above opens an email window, please use your email program directly.

Competition Rules - Some Key Points
  • There are five categories: Assigned (AS), Nature Avian (NA), Nature Non-Avian (NN), Open Avian (OA) and Open Non-Avian (ON).
  • These Key Points are superseded by the Competition Rules, as detailed in the following link: Salon Competition Rules (pdf)
  • From our Competition Rules:
    • "The distinction between Nature and Nature Avian categories will depend on the existence and significance of a bird or birds in the image. When one or more birds function as the main feature, as a significant feature or as a supporting feature of the image, the image must be entered in the Nature Avian category. Otherwise, if the image does not contain a bird, or a bird is present but does not add to the intended interest of the image, the image must be entered in the Nature category."
    • "The distinction between Open and Open Avian categories will depend on the existence and significance of a bird or birds in the image. When one or more birds function as the main feature, as a significant feature or as a supporting feature of the image, the image must be entered in the Open Avian category. Otherwise, if the image does not contain a bird, or if a bird is present but does not add to the intended interest of the image, the image may be entered in the Open category."
    • "Rules for the Assigned Topic Category are the same as for the Open Category (or Open Avian if the assigned subject happens to involve birds) except that the dominant feature of the entry must be the assigned subject. The subject for an Assigned Topic will be announced for that competition. Entries may be disqualified if, in the opinion of the Competition Coordinator or the Competition Judge, the image does not meet the category definition."
  • You may submit up to 4 entries.
  • You can place the 4 images in 4 of the 5 categories (1,1,1,1).
  •    or
  • You can place the 4 images in 3 of the 5 categories (2,1,1).
  •   Example for 4 Images in 3 of the 5 categories:
(1,2,1): 1 image in Assigned, 2 images in Open Non-Avian and 1 image in Open Avian.
  • All entries should be photographs that have been taken within the last 18 months (†).
  • All Nature Non-Avian and Nature Avian images shall not have evidence of the Hand of Man.
  • For best presentation, both at the meeting and on the website, you should resize your images to a maximum of 1400 pixels wide and 1050 pixels high at a resolution of 200 ppi before submitting them. The color space should be sRGB. If your files are currently Adobe RGB you should CONVERT them to sRGB. Resharpen after resizing as you desire.
  • If you are exporting the images from Adobe Lightroom, be sure that the meta data is included.

  • IF EMAILING YOUR IMAGES:        (not required if using method 1 above)
  • Don't forget to rename your image files to the following form:  AA_CC_Title_of_the_entry.jpg
  •          where AA = your initials, CC = the category
          (AS-Assigned, NA-Nature Avian, NN-Nature Non-Avian, OA-Open Avian or ON-Open Non-Avian)
followed by the title of the entry.
  • Please use the UNDERLINE CHARACTER  _  INSTEAD OF SPACES.
  •    So for example if John Smith enters a Nature Avian entry titled Bird on a Branch, the image
       file name would be JS_NA_Bird_on_a_Branch.jpg.
  • Mac users may send zipped files.
(†) Note: Images in Assigned can only be used in the Multiscreen Competition (held in May) if taken on or after April 1, 2016.
